Confused man twists his face

By Liz Meadows

As an Education Designer, I’ve been called upon to curate and source existing information that can benefit end-users without having to reinvent the wheel. I’ve lived by the CRAP test when sorting through a myriad of web sites, articles, videos and resources to decipher what I consider to be of decent quality, and therefore valuable!

I’ve known people who have considered Wikipedia to be a ‘just fine’ resource for knowledge to include in their courses. I’ve known subject matter experts (SMEs) to suggest websites that are over ten years old and that don’t contain up to date relevant information, but then again, some of those SMEs haven’t exactly kept up to date with their own industry as they maybe should have. Taking that into account, calling them subject matter experts was probably a reach.

These encounters were all in another galaxy, long before the days of Pop Education, where we get to work alongside the most current, knowledgeable experts in their industries – yay!

So what is the CRAP test, I hear you say (or think). Funny you should ask because you’re about to enter a resource that will answer all of that for you.

It’s like I knew you were coming and put the kettle on.
